CHIPINGE- A Chipinge cop who was recently in court facing bribe charges returned this week accused of domestic violence.
Annakim Chapwanya appeared before Chipinge Magistrate Alfred Chinembiri on Monday facing domestic violence charges.
Chapwanya attempted to stab his wife Yvonne Sibanda who is also a Police officer in Chipinge on Thursday last week following an altercation over WhatsApp. He was disarmed by Sergeant Major Givemore Nyamayaro before he could commit the crime.
In July last year Chapwanya was dragged to court after he allegedly solicited bribe of US50 to stop a TM supermarket warehouse assistant manager from being imprisoned for theft charges.
Prosecutor Timothy Katsande said last week on Wednesday night, Chapwanya had an altercation with his wife arising from the use of a WhatsApp platform. Sibanda fled from home and sought refuge at her friend in Chipinge urban camp.
The following day at around 845am, Chapwanya who is on vacation followed Sibanda to her work place at Chipinge Urban Police Camp and called her over the cell phone instructing her to come outside the offices. Instead she went into the office of the station’s disciplinarian Sergeant major Nyamayaro where she called Chapwanya from.
The accused followed Sibanda to the office and immediately produced an Okapi knife and advanced towards the complainant threatening to stab her. Nyamayaro managed to disarm the accused.
He was remanded in custody to March 25.https://chipingetimes.co.zw
