Beatrice man drowns in farm dam

Chikomba-A Beatrice man drowned in Lanarki Farm Dam on Sunday after a canoe overturned. 
Mashonaland East Police spokesperson Simon Chazovachiyi confirmed to The Mirror that Thomas Magaisa (38) failed to swim and drowned. 
Magaisa was in the canoe with Andrew Mariseni (41), who swam to safety. 
Circumstances are that the duo went to the dam with Tobias Katsachi (36) and Benjamin Gukwe (56) to pluck out weeds.
Magaisa and Mariseni got into a canoe which later overturned. The sub-aqua unit retrieved Magaisa’s body and taken to Chitungwiza Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Chazovachiyi urged the public to consider their safety first before entering water bodies.
“People must consider their safety before entering water bodies. Employers should also consider qualified personnel to do water body duties since there are a lot of dangers associated with water bodies,” said Chazovachiyi.
