BIKITA –A partially blind Bikita man has died after being attacked by a swarm of bees barely a week after a Renco woman similarly succumbed to bee stings. Masvingo Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa has confirmed.
Collen Kumbirai Chiumburu (67) of Mapanga Village under Chief Mukanganwi in Bikita was attacked by the bees around 1 pm while driving his tractor home from the field.
The incident happened on Monday around 1 pm. Chiumburu was with his brother, Zororo Moyo (74). They were towing the tractor using a lorry.
Dhewa said the duo noticed a swarm of bees when towing each other to Chiumburu’s homestead. The bees attacked Chiumburu, and he sustained a swollen face and head.
Moyo rushed him to Bikita Rural District Hospital, but he died upon arriving at the hospital.
Bikita Police noted bee stings all over the body. A postmortem was waived by Bikita Resident Magistrate Takawira Mugabe.
