CCC councilor spends night in cells, hours after being elected

CHIPINGE – Crispen Rambu who won Chipinge Ward 8 by-elections had his celebrations cut short after he was arrested and locked up in cells last night for alleged sexual abuse on Jenipher Mpofu

Mpofu is a member of the ruling party’s district executive in Chipinge.

Rambu who won the elections on Saturday was in prison barely 24 hours later. He was released by Chipinge Magistrate Alfred Chinembiri this morning after paying $10 000 bail.

Rambu who is also Ward 8 organizing secretary for CCC is remanded to April 5, 2022.

He is being represented by Admire Nkumbula of Mhungu and Associates.

The State represented by Isaac Tangwena said on Saturday, the polling day, Mpofu was walking along the road which leads to Makocheredze Primary School Polling station. She had a book on her which allegedly contained names of voters for the polling station.

Rambu who was coming from the opposite direction met the complainant and allegedly accused her of disturbing voters and tried to grab the book. Mpofu put the book into her jacket and the accused allegedly held her by the collar and searched in her bosom. After searching for some time Rambu allegedly got the book and fondled Mpofu’s breasts before leaving.

Rambu is denying the allegations.
