Chiefs Mapungwana, Makumbe reelected into Senate

MUTARE-Chiefs Mapungwana and Makumbe have been reelected into the Senate unopposed. They retain their seats following elections on Thursday at Chiefs Hall in Mutare. All provinces elected chiefs to the senate on the same day.
Out of the twenty-one Chiefs in the province, only nineteen showed up for the elections that were presided over by Manicaland Provincial Elections Officer Thomson Chiwereweshe.
Chief Makumbe of Buhera born Shepherd Chengeta said he is humbled by serving a second consecutive term in an interview with Chipinge Times.
“l am grateful that the chiefs have selected me for a second time. We expect to work together as we did in the previous term. We have not witnessed any violence, the election was conducted peacefully. Being selected for a second term is an indication that I am doing a great job,” said Chief Makumbe.
Chief Mapungwana born Enias Mapungwana also expressed gratitude for the confidence shown in him.
“I am happy with the confidence that the chiefs have in me. I will work closely with all chiefs in the province for the betterment of our communities and nation at large,” he said.
Senator Chiefs’ duties are to make sure that the laws of the country are in tandem with culture.
