CHIPINGE – A Chipinge soccer lover almost lost his life in a case of mistaken identity when another fan stabbed him with a knife at a social football match over the weekend.
The incident happened at Muumbe Football grounds in Magamba village under Chief Musikavanhu.
Manicaland Police spokesperson, Nobert Muzondo confirmed the incident.
Washington Chitokonye and Trymore Mugariri were both watching a social league match.
During the match, Chitokonye had an altercation with another person who was drunk and was wearing a red t-shirt. After the match Chitokonye approached Mugariri who was also wearing a red t-shirt and mistook him for the drunkard he had earlier had an altercation with. He withdrew an okapi knife and stabbed Mugariri on the neck and shoulder and fled the scene.
Mugariri was rushed to Rimbi Clinic where he was treated and discharged. Chitokonye is still at large.
