BEITBRIDGE-Magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba has granted ZWL20 000 bail to a Beitbridge man who allegedly tricked a tourist into paying ZAR5 330 for a non-existent carbon tax-fee
It is alleged Munyaradzi Gutsa (40) of 2828 SDP, Beitbridge tricked Jacques Alizart (51) of Durban in South Africa on May 21, 2023.
Prosecutor Ronald Gwazemba told the court that Alizart met Gutsa and several accomplices at Beitbridge Border Post.
Gutsa and the accomplices, who are still at large, offered to help Alizart with border-clearing services. Alizart was going to Victoria Falls.
Gutsa and his accomplices allegedly misinformed him that he had to pay ZAR5 330 for a non-existent carbon tax fee.
They also allegedly facilitated other clearing services.
Alizart discovered the fraud when he reached Malala Tollgate and failed to find the carbon tax fee receipt. He filed a Police report leading to the arrest of Gutsa.
