CHIPINGE – Chipinge Businessman Edmore Mwoyoweshumba popularly known as Doda has been given 20 weeks community service at Mutsvangwa Primary School for the attempted murder of a soldier he caught sleeping with his wife.

The sentence was given today (Friday) by Chipinge Magistrate Noel Mupeiwa.

Doda, Moses Mazuku, Vincent Mapuranga and seven others who are still at large severely assaulted Shepherd Makwenjere (22), a soldier he caught in bed with one of his eight wives, Naomi Makuyana (20) in his matrimonial bed.

Makwenjere is stationed at Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) 1.2 Battalion in Hwange. He was severely assaulted with a hammer, whips, iron bars and a sjambok on his buttocks with his hands and legs tied for close to two hours. His mother Betty was taken from her house and witnessed her son being whipped.

The incident happened on May 28, 2022 and Makwenjere has been admitted in hospital ever since.

Doda, Mazuku and Mapuranga were represented by Langton Mhungu of Mhungu and Associates.

Mhungu argued that Doda exercised self-refrain and he acted out of anger. He also added that Doda was a reasonable man and what he saw on the day made him act the way he did.

“Your worship, my client was not attempting to kill Makwenjere on the day in question. He is a gentleman who managed to control his anger after he caught his wife having sexual intercourse in his bedroom.

“On the day in question, he had a loaded gun and if he wanted to kill Makwenjere he could have done so by him shooting. My client did this out of anger,” said Mhungu.

Doda was released from remand prison on ZWL$ 50 000 bail and ZWL$ 50 000 for discharging a firearm twice.
