GWERU-Educationist William Gondo (Zanu PF), who lost the March 26, 2022, Mkoba Constituency by-election to incumbent legislature Amos Chibaya, is optimistic of winning in the forthcoming election.
He faces Chibaya again in Mkoba North Constituency in the August 23, 2023, elections.
Gondo told The Mirror that he is confident of winning the constituency as he has done some groundwork.
“What I can tell you is that I am ready to win the constituency for the party and that is not a joke. We are assured of winning the constituency,” he said.
Gondo, who owns the Booms College in Gweru, said he would push for socio-economic development for Mkoba residents.
He said he is currently running a scholarship programme which has assisted over 100 beneficiaries since its inception. He said the beneficiaries are from the underprivileged families in Mkoba.
“Giving such assistance is part of answering the call by President Mnangagwa to assist Zimbabweans, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
“The scholarship programme targets all students notwithstanding the political affiliation of their parents. Normally, those who are less privileged are recruited based on the recommendations made by their community leaders,” he said.
He also said he drilled boreholes in Mkoba to mitigate perennial water challenges and fixed a tower light in Mkoba 16.
“We have various projects and programmes that we are doing in our communities. We have supported the youths through soccer tournaments and this idea is also meant to reduce drugs and substances abuse,” he said.
