CHIPINGE – Lloyd ‘Samaita’ Mutasa’s Greenfuel FC continued on a winning track in the Eastern Region Soccer League (ERSL) when they on Friday trounced cup contenders Masvingo United by 2 goals to nil.

The team goes to a four-week midseason break with a four-point lead at the top of the 16-team league with 38 points out of 16 games. The league will resume on June 17, 2022.

After the weekend matches Masvingo United dropped to position 4 as it remained on 28 points.

Trailing Greenfuel on second position is Mutare City Rovers with 34 points from 16 games. Mutare City played against JM Busha and collected 1 point after a goalless draw.

Mutasa and his charges got off to a perfect start after opening the scoring after 44 minutes of hunting through Clopas Kapupurika. Former Manica Diamonds player Ishmael Lawe found the target 72minutes into the game to seal a comfortable win.

“I am happy with the boys’ performance so far. They have done very well after 16 matches. We are taking a one week break. I will be releasing the boys today and I expect them to come back for training next Tuesday.

“The break is good since I have injuries in the team. It will give the guys a chance to recuperate. It will also give us an opportunity to beef up the squad as we prepare for the second round. On the negative side, we had gained momentum, the break might affect that. I am hoping we will be able to pick up from where we left,” said Mutasa.

Ruwa Pro Group FC is on third position with 28 points after drawing 1-1 with Renco Mine FC. Ruwa is above Masvingo because of goal difference.

Masvingo United FC’s performance has not been convincing. The team which produced stars like Godfrey ‘Mai Mahofa’ Dondo, Charles Maguraushe, Ferdinand Mwachindalo and Chipo Tsodzo to mention but a few has failed to make much impact in the league.

Melfort FC complete the log’s top five with a total of 25 points. New boys Zaka Academy continues singing the blues after losing 1-0 to Melfort FC. Zaka Academy is at the bottom of the log with a total of seven points which include a win, four draws and 11 loses. https://chipingetimes.co.zw/
