Gutu man killed over stray cattle

GUTU – A Gutu man was kicked in the chest and died on Thursday last week for letting his herd of cattle stray into a nearby garden, Masvingo Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa has confirmed.
Dhewa said Leonard Juwari (31) struck Joshua Gaye (36) of Munamati Village, Chief Gutu, with a stick several times and kicked him once on the chest. Gaye dropped dead after the assault.
The incident happened around 10 am.
Gaye was herding cattle near Juwari’s garden around 9 am. He left the cattle that strayed into Juwari’s garden.
Juwari came to the garden and saw the herd eating his plants.
Gaye arrived at the garden, and the former attacked him with a stick several times.
Gaye fell down. He died on the spot, and Juwari was detained by the public who witnessed the assault.
The matter was reported to Police around 3 pm.
Gaya’s body had assault marks on the back and left cheek. It was taken to Gutu Mission Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
