CHIPINGE – GreenFuel Pvt Limited is refurbishing Greenfuel Arena Stadium where GreenFuel FC which has just gained promotion into Premier Soccer League (PSL) is preparing to play next season.
Club chairman Fredson Moyo said the renovation started last week.
Green Fuel Limited community relations manager Merit Rumema said they are using resources within the company and could not give the total cost.
“We are channeling resources that we already have in the company to do the required renovations and we have not quantified them,” said Rumema.
GreenFuel FC made history by becoming the first team to bring top-flight football to Chipinge. The ‘ethanol boys’ earned Premiership promotion after an unbeaten run in the Eastern Region Soccer League (ERSL) which ended last week.
“GreenFuel football stadium construction to match PSL standards began last week. The construction is fully funded by the company- GreenFuel Pvt Ltd,” said Moyo.
Moyo highlighted that the scope of work at Greenfuel Stadium includes building a wall right round the stadium, ablution facilities, changing rooms and a media box.
Water drainage systems will also be addressed during the facelift.
Moyo said they are hoping to complete the work before the commencement of the 2023 soccer season.
“We are also digging the pitch and importing proper clay soil and we are working on the drainage system. We are pushing to have the stadium ready for premiership by February or March 2023,” he said.
Last week Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) acting CEO Xolisani Gwesela and Technical Director Wilson Mutekede visited the stadium and gave the ethanol producers some piece of advice before the ZIFA First Instance Board (FIB) is invited for the inspection.
