Man heeds prophet, kills grandma

MUTARE – A man from Zimunya District allegedly killed his 86-year-old grandmother after a church prophet told him that the chest pains he suffered from were caused by her witchcraft.

Manicaland Police spokesperson Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the incident which occurred last week.

The accused is Itai Chinaka (36) of Nakai Village Chief Zimunya and he assaulted his grandmother Ennesi Mukwindidza to death.

Chinaka left home on the fateful day to go to church to seek healing for chest pains.  He returned and told Mukwindidza that she was responsible for his sickness. Mukwindidza denied the allegations resulting in an altercation.  Chinaka assaulted Mukwindidza with sticks and bricks all over.

Gracious Murima, a maid at the house witnessed the fight and tried to restrain Chinaka but Mukwindidza had already sustained severe head injuries. She was rushed to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital where she died on admission.

The matter was reported to Police leading to Chinaka’s arrest.

Inspector Muzondo urged members of the public to desist from violence.
