CHIREDZI-The inaugural Miss Chiredzi beauty pageant is scheduled for Hippo Valley Country Club this Saturday.
Pageant organiser and Endless, a Brand of Faith Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Faith Mazana, confirmed the development to The Mirror. Contestants are aged 16-28.
She said the event highlights sexual abuse and harassment faced by models.

“Registration is still open for models aged 16-28. Prizes will be announced soon. Modelling is a career, a profession but slowly being degraded to nothing. Through the years models have experienced critics from society, harassment, unwanted sexual advances, low self-esteem and low or no wages. People are masquerading as model coordinators and directors with wrong motives,” said Mazana
Renowned commercial multi-award-winning international model and Blekksfam Modelling Agency founder Blekks Makwara will be the guest of honour.

Several local artists like Queen Charlotte, Lil Key and Flexxers dance group, will perform on the day.
Mazana, who hails from Chiredzi, is on a campaign to uplift the girl child in the district after successfully hosting the Miss Independence modelling pageant.
She also urged sponsors to ensure that models work in humane conditions.

“All brands should ensure that models are working or participating in humane conditions and compensated appropriately for their time and effort. It has gotten to a point where it is hard for them to justify their complaints. They would rather give up and dare never to speak of the abuse because of the risk of being shut out of the industry, losing opportunities and ending their career,” said Mazana.
