Mucheke man (31) assaults mother (53) over rentals

MASVINGO-A Mucheke man has been jailed for assaulting his mother for the second time over collecting rentals from tenants at the family’s house.
Magistrate Rethagtcetsi Silaigwana slapped Rashid Ndini (31) with 12 months imprisonment and he will effectively serve eight months behind bars.
He was convicted on his own plea of assaulting Thelma Manyanhaire (53).
Ndini was convicted of a similar crime in 2013 and served time at Mutimurefu Prison.
Manyanhaire was in tears as she narrated to the court how she is now suffering from chest and back pains after the assault. She also urged the court to convict Ndini fearing for her life as he is bent on becoming the landlord and collecting rentals from tenants.
Prosecutor Ruvimbo Makoni told the court that the incident happened on February 13, 2023 at the family’s house.
Manyanhaire and Ndini met in the passage and Ndini rushed towards his mother and head butted her once. He slapped his mother several times on the face and kicked her on the chest and back. He then picked up a stone and smashed window panes, kicked doors in and removed door hinges. He then went to a spare bedroom and destroyed a television set.
Ndini was restrained by Aleck Dhiwa who was passing by the house.
