Mucheke man gets ZWL$15k bail for US$300 robbery

MASVINGO– Magistrate Rethagtcetsi Silaigwana has granted ZWL$15 000 bail to a Mucheke man who allegedly waylaid and assaulted his victim before stealing US$300.

Robert Zengeya (29) of R210 Mucheke A, Masvingo will be back in court for continuation of trial on May 2, 2023.

Conditions of his bail are that he will report at ZRP Chikato every fortnight, continue residing at his given address and not interfere with State witnesses.

Prosecutor Godknows Mugondo told the court that Zengeya attacked and robbed Admire Tavarwira (26) near Craft Centre on March 27, 2023 around 6:30 pm.

Zengeya allegedly waylaid Tavarwira who was walking along a footpath and struck him on the head, left hand and forehead before demanding cash.

He went on to search him and went away with US$300. Tavarwira sought help from Police officers manning a roadblock 100m away from the scene.

He was taken to ZRP Masvingo Central and filed a report and after taken to Masvingo General Hospital for a medical examination.

Zengeya was arrested on a later date by Police using a description provided by Tavarwira.

He is represented by Collen Maboke of Ruvengo, Maboke Legal Practitioners.
